i studied from khyber college of dentistry, here a bds spends the entire year unlike the previous years. A dental student starts his clinical work from 3rd year and spends clinical hours in prosthodontics oral surgery and periodontics. Kcd is comprised of 4 major and 3 minor wards. majors include prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery and conservation (operative dentistry). and minors include periodontics, oral medicine and peadodontics. although introduction of prosthodontics and oral surgery are started in 3rd year, like one has to make removable partial dentures in prosthodontics and one has to take impressions and above all a student gets exposed to real humans and in oral surgery a students learns how to give a local anesthesia (infiltration and mandibular block). and introduction of periodontics among the minors also starts in 3rd year which includes scaling and root planning, oral prophylaxis, brushing techniques and various diseases whose oral manifestions are seen in mouth like we saw many patients of lichen planus a dermatological (skin) disease. we have 4 batches in 3rd and final years each is comprised of 12-13 students.
so when our lectures were finished our batch had to go to prosthodontics, as we went there or demonstrater explained us the whole procedure and told us bring a partial denture patients from the waiting area section, so me a my freind went outside in search of patients, luckily we found a old man who was partially dentate like he only had 5-6 teeth in both jaws, we brought him to the dental chair andour demonstrater took impression from him, he showed us how to mix aliginate. and the whole process started. i still remember my first patient he was a young fellow 22 years of age he had a missing premolar, my first partial denture was very high like it wasn't properly made, like i said it was high means i had to grind up the whole tooth so only then it will fit in occlusion.it was very funny but my patient said its OK i don't mind, as its your first case. I'll make another one. and then slowly gradually i learned how to make a partial denture.

treatments provided in teaching hostpitals of peshawar pakistan.
hey guys, i am a dental student currently doing my house job in Khyber college of dentistry Peshawar. I wanna share a little bit of my experience through the entire journey of my BDS (bachelor of dental surgery). after intermediate a premedical student has to pass an enterence test exams in which he has to qualify among 10.000 and over students for just 550 seats in our times. The entire cricket stadium (qayyum stadium) is booked for the test and a huge crowd gives the exam. Thank God i passed and qualified for a bds seat. A Bds student has to stay in medical college (Khyber medical college) for the first two years, for the basic sciences like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, in first year including dental material sciences whose classes are arranged in KCD. and pharmacology, pathology and Islamic/pk studies in their 2nd year. Remember a BDS student has to pass through intense discrimination from thier fellow medical students and even doctor teachers in medical college and continuesly reminded that u are no t part of this college and u don't belong here, u guys spend 4 years in 32 teeth that's stupid and various other indecent comments. So one has to be strong hearted and ignoring all such comments if he chooses dentistry as a profession in 3rd world country like pakistan. Our 3rd year subject includes general medicine and general surgery as a part of syllabus so one has to attend teaching medical hospitals for it, Khyber teaching hospital for general surgery and Hayatabad medical complex for general medicine . I was never so sorry for all the poor patients who were operated in operation theaters of KTH. Because besides medical students ward attendents even have to scroll around and check whats going on. I still remember a young girl who was 18-20 years of age and was operated for appendectomy. when she was brought to the theatre and anesthetized she was shaved of her pubic hair by a training medical officer a female in front of a huge crowd, who gave her thick pricks by blade and ward attendents stayed there to watch the entire surgery, it was our 3rd day at OT and i was so sorry for the poor girl as she was humiliated in front of such big crowd. and i prayed that God don't make such poor people and please don't make such poor ill and being humiliated in public. we saw many other surgeriers like this but the one i just mentioned was more distressful. our general medicine ward was much smoother and we were taught by a very well known, polite and well learned professor Dr noor wazir, who taught us every thing of our course and still thats in my mind.
than we came to final year bds which is in our college KCD.
